This green power shot is the perfect way to jumpstart your day with a concentrated burst of nutrients, energy, and antioxidants! It's packed with nutrient-dense vegetables, hydrating coconut water, and a zesty lemon kick in just a small 2-ounce shot that you can slam in seconds. Granny Smith apples bring bright acidity, natural sweetness, and quercetin, a powerful antioxidant that may support immune function and reduce inflammation. Celery is rich in vitamins K and C, potassium for heart health, and compounds that may help reduce inflammation and support digestion. Cucumber provides hydration with its high water content, plus silica for healthy skin and hair, and magnesium for muscle relaxation and energy production. Baby spinach is a nutritional powerhouse loaded with iron for energy and oxygen transport, calcium for bones, magnesium for cellular function, and lutein for eye health. It also contains oxalates that bind to minerals, but the small amount used here provides huge benefits. Fresh flat-leaf parsley adds vitamin K for bone health, vitamin C for immune support, and chlorophyll for detoxification and natural energy. Coconut water provides natural electrolytes (potassium, sodium, magnesium) for hydration and cellular function, making this a true wellness drink. Fresh lemon juice adds bright flavor plus vitamin C for immune support, antioxidants, and aids mineral absorption. The optional matcha powder brings L-theanine for calm focus, catechins for antioxidant power, and a gentle, sustained energy boost without the crash of caffeine. The result is a vibrant green shot that looks like pure wellness in a glass. You can take it as a morning wellness ritual, before a workout for an energy boost, or anytime you need a concentrated dose of nutrients and plant power. This is nutrition at its most efficient!

Frequently Asked Questions

Mymanabites Arrow Icon

Q: Do I really need to strain it, or can I just drink the blended version?

A: You can drink the blended version, but straining creates that signature "shot" consistency and removes the fibrous pulp, making it easier to drink quickly and digest more easily. The strained juice is more concentrated in nutrients and tastes cleaner. But if you want more fiber, skip the straining and drink it as a green smoothie!

Q: Can I use regular spinach instead of baby spinach?

A: Yes! Regular spinach works, but you may want to use slightly less since the leaves are larger. The nutritional content is similar, though some say baby spinach is slightly more tender and easier to blend. Either way works great!

Q: How long does this keep?

A: Fresh green juice keeps in an airtight glass container in the coldest part of your fridge for 3-4 days. The longer it sits, the more nutrients degrade and oxidation occurs, so drink it as fresh as possible for maximum benefits. You can also freeze it in ice cube trays and thaw as needed!

This green power shot is the perfect daily wellness boost! Granny Smith apple, celery, cucumber, spinach, parsley, coconut water, and lemon juice blended and strained into concentrated 2-ounce shots. Optional matcha adds extra energy and antioxidants. Quick, nutrient-dense, and packed with benefits!

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 1 Granny Smith apple, roughly chopped
  • 3 celery stalks, roughly chopped
  • 1 medium cucumber, roughly chopped
  • 1 cup fresh baby spinach
  • ½ cup fresh flat-leaf parsley
  • 1 cup coconut water
  • Juice of 1 fresh lemon (about 3 tablespoons)
  • 1 teaspoon matcha powder (optional, for extra energy and antioxidants)

Instructions

  1. Prep the Vegetables Roughly chop the Granny Smith apple (no need to peel!), celery stalks, and cucumber into chunks that will easily fit through your blender. Measure out the baby spinach and fresh parsley.
  2. Blend All Ingredients Add the chopped apple, celery, cucumber, baby spinach, parsley, coconut water, and fresh lemon juice to a high-powered blender. If using matcha powder, add it now. Blend on high speed for about 1-2 minutes until completely smooth and fully combined. The mixture should be vibrant green and look like a smoothie.
  3. Prepare for Straining Place a fine-mesh strainer or triple-layered cheesecloth over a large measuring cup with a pour spout or a spouted bowl. This setup makes it easy to pour the blended mixture through and collect the strained juice.
  4. Strain the Juice Carefully pour the blended green mixture through the strainer into the measuring cup. Using the back of a spoon, press and squeeze the pulp against the strainer to extract as much juice as possible. Keep squeezing and pressing until you're left with just the dry pulp. This process extracts the maximum amount of nutrient-dense juice!
  5. Portion into Shot Jars Transfer the strained green juice into 2-ounce shot-sized jars or glass containers. Fill each jar about three-quarters full. You should get about 12 two-ounce shots from this recipe, though the exact yield depends on how much moisture is in your vegetables.
  6. Store Properly Cover the jars tightly and store them in the coldest part of your refrigerator (usually the back of the fridge). Fresh green juice keeps for 3-4 days, though it's best consumed within 24 hours for maximum nutrient content and freshness.
  7. Enjoy Take your green power shot first thing in the morning, before a workout for an energy boost, or anytime you need a concentrated wellness boost. Take it as a quick shot, or sip it slowly—either way, you're getting a powerful dose of plant-based nutrition!

Cooking hacks and tips

  • Use a high-powered blender for smoothest results: A Vitamix, Blendtec, or similar high-powered blender will pulverize the vegetables into the smoothest consistency, making straining easier and extracting the maximum amount of juice. Lower-powered blenders may leave larger pulp particles and be harder to strain.
  • Don't skip squeezing the pulp: Press and squeeze that pulp against the strainer aggressively! This extracts the maximum amount of nutrient-dense juice from the vegetables. The more you squeeze, the more juice you get. The remaining dry pulp can be composted or added to soups and broths.
  • Drink green juice as fresh as possible: Nutrients degrade quickly once the juice is extracted due to oxidation. Drink it the same day you make it for maximum benefits, or within 24 hours maximum. Store in airtight glass containers in the coldest part of the fridge to slow oxidation.
  • Add matcha for sustained energy without jitters: If you want an extra energy boost, add the matcha powder to the blender. Matcha provides L-theanine, which creates calm, focused energy without the crash of caffeine. It also adds powerful antioxidants and that beautiful green color!
  • Use the pulp for other recipes: Don't throw away that leftover vegetable pulp! Add it to vegetable broths, soups, baked goods, or pet food. The pulp still contains fiber and nutrients, so don't waste it. Some people even use it to make vegetable stock or add it to smoothie bowls for extra fiber.
